The Paris Wincey Mills Co
The Paris Wincey Mills Co., or as it is more often referred to as Wincey Mills, is a market that is open year-round to the public. With its doors first opening in 1889 and most recently operating as a Canadian Tire store, the building has been revitalized to hose local vendors serving quality goods and a welcoming café, giving visitors a comfortable warm experience. Operating before, during, and after the Great Depression, the Wincey Mills company had, at one point, employed over 125 people bringing the locals a place to come together. Not only is the market somewhere where visitors can shop, they can engage in the history throughout the building, learning in a test kitchen in the market’s hall during culinary events, share the experience with the loved ones they bring and apply for a chance to have a front row seat to it all, and work for the company.
Wincey Mills is home to countless vendors that are originally based out of Paris and the surrounding local area. On the main level of the market, visitors can browse through a wide range of shops, with the emphasis on farm-to-table freshness. The local foods available to the public include produce, cheese, seafood and meats. Not stopping at being able to fill their cupboards and refrigerator with local foods, visitors can also indulge in their love of vintage clothing, jewellery, and housewares. For those who love a more modern feel, you can view and shop handmade jewellery and housewares, in addition to getting a glimpse into original art from local artists, from stained glass to canvas covered with beautiful, colourful acrylic paints. Vendors that set-up shop at Wincey Mills include, Blue Dog Coffee Roasters and Café, Link Street Sausage House, The Tipperary Bog, The Paris Apothecary, Chelsey Pear Charm Jewellery, and Jiggs and Reels.
One of the market’s most highly coveted feature is The Paris Wincey Mills Co Test Kitchen. Located in the hall of the market, the versatile and fully equipped kitchen is open for public and private events. The kitchen is used for both private and public events. The culinary activities that allow those who visit the kitchen to engage with each other include parties, cookbook signings, tastings, crafts, networking and demonstrations. The kitchen is also used to help people master their culinary skills, holding cooking classes for both adults and children, in addition to canning and preserving, and baking. The Test Kitchen, its activities and classes are open to the public.
